Allowing your readers to get to know you better can make you seem more human and relatable. When consumers feel like they can relate to you, they’re more likely to check out your book. Aim to share posts that let your followers learn more about you, such as personal photos. For example, you can share a picture from a vacation. You might also share a photo of you completing a hobby, like baking a cake or taking a hike. While these images may not directly relate to your book, they can reassure your followers there’s a personality behind the author.

While you want to avoid overtly promoting your book in each post, ensure your following is aware that you have a book available. When considering what to post, peruse your book and reflect on its contents. Aim to share photos that relate to your book’s message. Here are some ideas for promotional posts:

Melissa Sercia, a spicy romance author, saw her career skyrocket thanks to TikTok. By posting four times a day, using trending sounds, and studying the algorithm to understand what was working in her genre, Melissa saw her video views and likes soar. Although it required a lot of time and effort, the results were worth it. As her book sales and Kindle Unlimited reads started to increase, she knew TikTok had played a significant role in her success. She has since become one of the most popular BookTok authors, with her books being featured in countless videos.

Make sure every post invites engagement. End each video with a question, ask viewers to give their opinion on whatever you’re discussing, or find some fun, creative incentive to get users to comment. Videos with lots of engagement get more views!

Also, By connecting with influencers, you can reach a wider audience and gain valuable exposure for your book. Additionally, influencers can help to establish your credibility as an author and increase the visibility of your book.

You can find popular podcasts that feature novels. Search for podcasts that discuss and review books similar to the one you’ve written. Before you approach a podcaster about showcasing your book, listen to several of the prior episodes. If you believe a podcast will produce book sales, then make a pitch to that podcaster.

Customers love free samples—whether that’s tiny portions of a new frozen pizza at the supermarket or an excerpt of your novel! Consider offering a portion of it—one or two chapters, the first five pages, etc.—as a freebie for new readers. You can use a site like Bookfunnel to upload the excerpt and create a landing page where interested readers can download it. Be sure to include an option for them to sign up for your newsletter as well so that you can continue reaching out through drip campaigns and follow-ups that will keep your book in their mind.
